York Open Studios starts this Friday!!!
You are invited to experience my new series, Rebel Flora, in person
In the last issue of Notes of a Painter I talked about the strength in fragility of flowers as the inspiration behind my latest work and for the NEXT TWO WEEKENDS you’ll be able to experience it in real life.
Two years ago I was accepted into York Open Studios and this year I’m back! I’ll be showing my Rebel Flora series at Venue 79 at Pica Studios, Grape Lane. There will be prints, greeting cards, and originals available to browse and buy. You can also grab a signed copy of my book ‘Women Artists Since 1900, Has Their Role Changed?’ This is a great opportunity to see a working studio and meet local Artists. For more information and see the Artists taking part, visit York Open Studios.
Preparing for Open Studios
It’s been quite the challenge getting everything ready. Back in January I began giving my space a make over, with the help of my husband. I now have a standing desk with extra storage for an easier working environment and an extra wall for hanging even more work.

I’ve been working on this series since June 2024 as life has changed so much since then it may feel like my work has changed too. But my themes of empowerment and vulnerability still remain but are presented through the rebellious nature of florals. The strong Dutch inspiration comes through in the iconic tulips which have been a joy to paint.
I can’t wait to share this with you.
We have our preview night Friday 4th April, 6pm-9pm and Pica Studios will be open Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April, 10am-5pm.
Hope to see you there.
Speak soon,
Rae
