Being an Artist, life is full of inspiration. The every day can inspire and provoke ideas and create opportunities for creativity. I kicked off this month with my sister’s hen do. A sister’s weekend away in beautiful Whitby. We visited Falling Foss not far from Whitby, which is a great day out for all the family. It has a great cake selection and there is a waterfall in the forest which makes for a great woodland walk.
I can highly recommend a beautiful visit to Falling Foss. Find out more here.
There were the usual hen do antics, (what happens in Whitby stays in Whitby ;) ) as well as fish and chips, ice cream, seagull poop, and making castles and trenches on the beach.

As the month developed I have to say I’ve felt unsettled. I am really enjoying York St John which I hope to make a permanent position soon. I have tried to make time for painting managing to fit in up to three hours at the studio after work. Sometimes I’m not feeling it and I manage to do an hour or just tidy the space. The most important thing, I’ve found, is spending time at the studio in that environment, regardless of how much I get done. This helps to keep me consistent and I do end up producing more than I think.
I’ve had some pretty strange dreams this month which I have recorded and will maybe translating into painting. That’s the beauty of making art, it can help me make sense of my subconscious and the world around me.
Glastonbury
The highlight of this month was Glastonbury. At this festival of contemporary performing Arts, there is so much to see a do, every day seemed to last for 24 hours. We drove down from York on Tuesday and stayed in a rather questionable hotel for about 5 hours until we left at 2.30 am to drive 40 minutes to the festival. I love waking up extra early, but only when it’s for traveling and adventures. The roads were clear and we joined the queue at 4 am waiting for the gates to open at 8 am. As we sat in the queue the sun began to come up and the day was born. The thing that I will take away from the whole experience of the week is being present. The phone signal wasn’t great and we mainly saved our battery for photos and videos. We only had to think about where we needed to be in an hour to be ready to go to the act we wanted to see or explore the areas of the enormous site. This sense of being present, I’ve found, is difficult to have in normal life. The clock is ticking and I always feel a need not to waste time so plan out my days and weeks so I can fit everything in.
Tv appearance
Whilst I was away an episode of The Great British Sewing Bee was aired which included two canvases painted by me almost a year ago. Whilst at Leeds Arts University I was given the opportunity to paint canvas which would be cut up and used to make an outfit on the show as one of their challenges. Mia and Fauve both used my work to make incredible dresses, which I would love to wear!
