Do you draw?
How did you get into drawing? Was it a school, in a job or maybe you’re self taught
What was the first thing you learnt to draw?
Or maybe you feel like you wish you could draw?
For me, I was drawing from a young age, long before iPads and YouTube could keep me quiet in a restaurant, sorry mum. I would copy the illustrations from some of my favourite children's books from authors like Roald Dahl, Beatrix Potter and Shirley Hughes.
I loved the illustrations of scenes of family life, animals in the garden and the adventure of My Naughty Little Sister, having two sisters, I guess those stories resonated. Those stories and more importantly the illustrations capture my imagination, something I’m lucky to still possess and actually put these pics together has made me nostalgic for childrens books. Growing up, imagination and curiosity something many people often lose, that child like spark for life where there are no mistakes and playing is allowed. When was the last time you had time to day dream let alone draw that day dream?
Now I'm, somewhat, grown up, I still draw loads.
Not only because i’ve been a graphic designer and am an artist and it kinda comes with the territory, but also if I go even a few days without drawing or painting my mood drops. Research actually shows that even a quick sketch here and there can help help to increase mood, confidence, help memory and develop fine motor skills. Pretty cool really.
Let me know below what was the first thing you learnt to draw.
