Escaping to London for the day, part one.
The National Portrait Gallery
It’s important for me to get a bit of mummy time every now and again, so I’m heading to the National Portrait Gallery to see the incredible Jenny Saville exhibition.
It’s on until 7 September and is an absolute must see for anyone who loves big, bold expressive art.
I particularly felt a deep connection with the mother and child work. Jenny mainly worked in charcoal and pastel whilst pregnant and in the early stages of her children’s lives as it’s so difficult to get to the studio. I think this work has enhanced her oeuvre in a way that wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t have children.
I also loved her colour work. The way the colours pop is so gorgeous.
Jenny has spoken about her thinking behind the colours chosen.
In the video Jenny talks about how her children use apps and filters to put each others faces on each others bodies, she sees this as a tool and inspiration for her art she also speaks about how her daughter had a fluorescent pink jumper on that reflected the colour into her face.
A bit like here…
This was a morning trip, as I’d left Jacob enough milk I had time to also nip to the Royal Academy.
Find out how I got on at the RA next time.
Don’t forget you can easily support my work for free by liking my posts and leaving a comment. It helps others discover my work and also makes me feel good to know you’re here.
Until next time.
Lots of love
Rae
