Now that the new year is well underway, I’m finally settling into my new home studio—though it’s not quite Instagram-ready just yet!
At the end of 2024, we bought our first house and moved in December, and since then, I’ve been transforming the conservatory into a creative space. It’s a work in progress, but it already feels like home.
I’m also in the process of organising my studio at Pica Studios, which will be open for York Open Studios this April. You’ll be able to visit on 5th–6th April and 12th–13th April (10am–5pm), with a preview evening on 4th April (6–9pm). I’d love to see you there!

I have some very exciting news—we have a new studio assistant arriving in June 2025!
So far, pregnancy has been a dream (touch wood!). I’ve been incredibly lucky—no sickness, and baby is doing well.
Now that I’m halfway through, I’ve been reflecting on how much life has changed in such a short time. Since marrying my soulmate last summer, I’ve been navigating this huge transition—grieving my old life while stepping into my new role as a wife and mother-to-be. It hasn’t been easy, especially juggling a house move and running my art business, but as spring approaches, I feel a real sense of excitement. I can’t wait to meet our little one and see their first smile.
January has been a balancing act of admin, marketing, and painting. The past few weeks, I gave myself some space to paint and play—experimenting with small sketches, exploring colours, and testing compositions. It’s been so refreshing to let my creativity flow freely. I will share more on this next time.
Speak soon,
Rae
